    • Ability to carry out tasks assigned by the teacher/supervisor.
    • Demonstrate sensitivity, patience, and flexibility in working with students with special needs.
    • High school graduate or equivalent.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality of students, staff, school business, materials, and information.
    • May be required to possess a valid State of Alaska motor vehicle operator’s license with no insurance restrictions.
    • Successfully complete training for verbal de-escalation techniques.
    • May be required to complete the physical intervention/restraint training.
    • Ability to safely, regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
    • Ability to stay in close proximity to students.
    • Successful completion of annually required training. May include but not be limited to: EED’s E modules: Introduction to Special Education, Adapting Teaching Techniques to Meet Individual Needs, Supporting Positive Behavior, and SPED Eligibility Categories or an alternate training opportunity provided by the Special Services Administrator.
    • Ability to complete training specific to student needs.
    • Perform duties within Special Education throughout KIBSD.
    • Work with students identified with intensive needs (life skills, autism, behavior support).
    • May assist and support students with personal care and hygiene.
    • May transport, supervise, and support students in job sites.
    • Work under the supervision of the teacher/supervisor assigned to support IEP goals and objectives.
    • Maintain confidentiality of students, staff, school business, materials, and information.
    • Under the supervision of the teacher/supervisor, secure and assist in the development of subject matter materials and use all types of instructional equipment.
    • Assist students with work or projects assigned.
    • Duplicate materials for classroom use. Distribute, collect and assist in correcting materials, and assist in instructional record keeping tasks. Help with inventory within the classroom
    • Assist the teacher/supervisor in fostering safety procedures.
    • Supervise playground and/or assist on field trips that include special needs students.
    • May provide mentoring and training to Aide IIs.
    • May monitor the classroom independently for short periods of time when the teacher must leave the room.
    • May include independent instruction or monitoring of groups or individual students in systems that the aide has received training in, under the close supervision of the teacher.
    • May assist in implementing teacher developed behavior management programs for individuals, small groups, or the classroom, including the possible use of restraint techniques.
    • May provide individual or small group assistance in the regular classrooms for resource students.
    • Assist and support cultural activities relative to specific backgrounds of students.
    • May be required to work with students categorized as multi-handicapped.
    • May be required to attend IEP meetings or staff meeting when appropriate.
    • Other duties as assigned from time to time.
    • The Kodiak Island Borough School District is looking for the following positions for the 2023-2024 school year:

      AIDE IV - SPECIAL EDUCATION INTENSIVE SUPPORT*

      Location: Elementary (Peterson, East, North Star, Main)
      Hours: 6.5 hrs/day, 5 days/week (9 month)
      Salary: Entry Range 16.5, Step 1: $22.31 per hour
      Start Date: 8/21/2023
      * Certain Aide IV positions are grant funded.

      Position Summary: The Aide IV works as an assistant to the teacher and classroom. Performs duties working with students identified with specific intensive needs on a one-to-one and/or group basis.

      Qualifications:
