      The Kodiak Island Borough School District is accepting applications for an Aide III (ELAP) at East Elementary. The Aide III works as an assistant to the teacher and classroom. Performs duties working with students on a one-to-one and/or group basis. The aide uses a second language as required for instruction, assessment and parent/staff communications.

      Hours: 6 hours per day, 5 days a week, and 9 months per year
      Salary: Entry Range 12.5, Step 1: $19.02 per hr.

      QUALIFICATIONS:
      1. Ability to work well with public, students, staff and parents.
      2. Ability to carry out tasks assigned by the teacher/supervisor.
      3. Demonstrate sensitivity, patience, and flexibility in working with students with special needs.
      4. Fluency in English and a second language specified by the district.
      5. High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
      6. Ability to maintain confidentiality of students, staff, school business, materials, and information.
      7. Ability to safely, regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

      RESPONSIBILITIES:
      1. Work under the supervision of the teacher/supervisor assigned to support goals and objectives of IEP and/or English Language Acquisition Plan (ELAP).
      2. Under the supervision of the teacher/supervisor, secure and assist in the development of subject matter materials and use all types of instructional equipment.
      3. Assist students with work or projects assigned.
      4. Duplicate materials.
      5. Distribute, collect and assist in correcting materials, and assist in instructional record keeping tasks.
      6. Assist the teacher/supervisor in fostering safety procedures.
      7. Supervise playground and/or assist on field trips.
      8. Help with inventory.
      9. May monitor the classroom independently for short periods of time when the teacher must leave the room.
      10. May include independent instruction or monitoring of groups or individual students in systems that the aide has received training in, under the close supervision of the teacher.
      11. May assist in implementing teacher developed behavior management programs for individuals, small groups, or the classroom, including the possible use of restraint techniques.
      12. May provide individual or small group assistance in the regular classrooms for resource students.
      13. May assist with implementation of cultural activities relative to specific backgrounds of students.
      14. Maintain confidentiality of students, staff, school business, materials, and information.
      15. Other duties as assigned from time to time.
